At one time or another we all face Goliath. There will be someone or something that will deceive and attack, trying to defeat you. Whatever you’re facing, relationship, job, friends, finances or a haunting past, its sole purpose is to try to destroy your life. Goliath is in this day and age, satan. God calls on all of us to be strong and to understand that God will have victory for your life. To fight and defeat Goliath, is in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Saul tells David, I Samuel 17:37-40 “‘Go, and the LORD be with you.’ 38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.”
When this young boy rejected the armour that Saul had given him to defeat Goliath with, I can imagine that Saul thought David would be defeated. David took off the armour gathered up his slingshot and his shepherd’s staff. These were the same weapons David used to fight the lion and the bear and these were the weapons that God had given to him in victory. David’s full confidence was in God not in himself.
David beat Goliath not because he brought a sling to the fight. David beat Goliath because Goliath didn’t know David had a sling. Goliath did not know the mighty power of God. Put on God’s armour which is his Word, you will be able to face Goliath when he comes for you.
Even though you may not understand how everything will work out, God does. You may think there is no way out for you. God will make a way. Have faith that every moment God is touching hearts, opening doors, and lining up all the right opportunities. Things may look dark right now but have knowledge in the Word of God. Believing in God’s Word will defeat whatever has come to harm you. Remember a young boy named David facing a giant named Goliath. You too will have victory.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
