You’re Killing Me Smalls

This political season is wearing me out! Do you remember two years ago when Ebola hit the United States? Wore me out! I was stocking up on essential oils because you just know they will surely kill some African Ebola virus. Maybe they would and maybe they wouldn’t. I am glad I didn’t have to find out. I do love my oils though.

Have you ever been in debt? Have you ever gone through a divorce? Have you had a long term illness with a loved one? Have you had cranky little kids for a week while your husband was out of town traveling? All of these things can wear us out if we let them. Stealing our joy or my phrase “wear me out” are the same thing.
Why? It is life. Life is messed up! Eve blew it in the garden. She blew it BIG!  Oh, I’d like to get a hold of her and have a talk! Hum, I would have eventually blown it too. I don’t get through a day around here without messing something up, so maybe I would’ve made it 30 minutes longer than Eve, but the result would be the same, fallen world.

John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I don’t know about you, but I am so glad God included this little tid bit in His Word. Thankful! Grateful! Joyful!

Yes, I’m still in this world, but I’m not “of” this world. My hope is in eternity. That doesn’t mean I’m sulking or fretting through today. It means I’ve read the end of The Book and I know who wins! God wins and I am one happy gal to be on that team. Team Jesus! We should make up some t-shirts for that.

I can get still get myself worked up, but I come back to this Good News. Jesus died for me. Jesus rose from the grave by the power of the Almighty King of Kings. That power is still at work today. God has not changed one bit.  God raised Jesus from the dead and I feel pretty confident that with that kind of power he can handle a little old election, Ebola, a broken heart, a sorrowful heart or even some out of control toddlers. Our problems are real. However, God is listening. God loves us. God knows the whole story, while we only have a tiny piece of the picture in terms of eternity.

I will not let an election or anything else wear me out today! God is on his throne and I have his ear. I have his written word in the Bible. I will not let anyone steal my joy or wear me out and just for the record “Smalls, you ain’t killin’ me one bit.”

A passage from the book of James:

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Did you get that? Consider it pure joy!! Joy!  lav-happy-emoji

See, God has a plan and it may not be breezing through life without any struggles. Sometimes I may need a little Ebola scare to remind me who is on the throne. We all have struggles, big and small. Some we are meant to conquer and some are meant to change us. God is the potter and I am just a lump of clay. I can’t mold an arm and reach out and make myself into anything without the  potter molding me.  When you find  yourself struggling, soften to His touch. Don’t be bitter, seek Him and discover what He is molding you to be.

Take heart, God has got this!
